| DAYS
8 - 11 in ICU for EVE |
|
FRIDAY,
FEBRUARY 26, 1999 ( 10 days post surgical)
- Waiting for the
phone calls.
- Eve has gained 1/2
pound.
- The agitation is
still high.
- Eve started "eating"
at midnight. A little at a time. I know she has to feel better having
something
in her tummy.
- She's going to be
fed every 3 - 4 hours while she sleeping.
- She will also have
temperature and heart rate checked while sleep so as to get more
accurate
readings.
- Staying at home
is as hard as seeing her.
- Went up to see her
at midnight for about an hour.
- Tears flowed.
SATURDAY, FEBRUARY
27, 1999 (11 days post surgical)
- Eve is still in
ICU
- She's beginning
to slow down in her pacing in her ICU cage. The agitation level is
getting
better.
- Waiting for phone
calls.
- She smelled peanut
butter offered by Amy, the RVT who works Fri. Sat and Sun nights.
Here's
another A&M Angel.
- Went to watch her
for an hour at midnight.
- She walked around
a bit in her crate, but not to the extent that she was walking into the
sides of the walls.
- She settled down
and eventually fell into a very deep sleep with steady breathing. I
went
home and did the same.
SUNDAY,
FEBRUARY 28, 1999 (12 days post surgical)
- Eve's vet student
has been so good about calling as often as she can. Eve comes first
though,
and so we wait.
- Eve was calm enough
this morning to eat 110 cc of A/D out of a bowl.
- She went outside
again to walk and potty. She was taken out as soon as she began to wake
up, and so being restrained was minimal. She seems to do better and
stays
calmer if not held for long period of time.
- She got to go out
for a second time!
- She still can't
hear or see!
- Waiting!
- Decided against
going up tonight at midnight. The emotional roller coaster has run over
me!
- Waiting!
MONDAY,
MARCH 1, 1999 (13 days post surgical)
- Things are lookin'
up!
- Eve's awake more
and not so agitated.
- Her 4th year student,
Erika, has said that Eve "scarfed down her food"! Just like a scottie!
- She's eating every
6 hours, between 100 ml and 130 ml A/D
- Weight is up to
13.3 #
- She has been outside
in the sunshine several times today and is walking in a zig zag pattern
rather than circling to the left. (the Neurological
Evaluation page will shed light on the importance of this shift in
patterns.)
- The jugular catheter
was removed! It had been set when she was admitted to the Emergency
Clinic
- And the good news.
. . . .EVE MAY BE GOING TO IMC (intermediate care) TOMORROW!
